The Realm Of Desire

The Touch of The Surging Tide
“The Touch of The Surging Tide” is Yang Zhang’s latest project where she has teamed up with acclaimed artists from South India who have collaborated with 2x Academy Award winning composer, AR Rahman of “Slumdog Millionaire” fame. The album is being submitted to the 2024 Grammy Awards® in the Contemporary Instrumental category.
The album merges the beauty of two cultures into one unique art form, where two extreme aesthetic tastes have been melted organically: it rejuvenates and redirects the evolution for future development. Yang Zhang’s new project pushes the limits of a dynamic range of categories by re-envisioning Indian music with a blend of futuristic touch: a wild array of cinematic ambiances with the remolded layer of electronic music, traversed through a Jazz taste.
By traversing the South Asian music lead by Bansuri, which blends with a broad range of vocals and dialects diversified from Asian to Africa, the album sets a wide-range of Indian melodic phrasing, laced with the unique nuances of traditional Indian flute improvisations influenced by Saga and Carnatic music that distinctly formalized an authentic and vocalized style of flute playing. The album encompasses the uniqueness, connectivity and compatibility of Indian folk tunes that can not only broaden the connection of Southern Asian music, but seamlessly lead the direction of its future evolution.
The project was consulted and supervised by 2x Grammy® winning composer Brent Fischer, and the featured flutist is Vijay Gopal, who is an A-grade artist of All India Radio, Chennai and an impaneled artist on the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR)
The Indian recording sessions were produced and engineered by 3x Grammy accredited musician, Devan Ekambaram.
To get the authentic sound of the South Asian Bansuri, renowned Bollywood engineer, Praveen Muralidhar was roped in to mix the flute tracks as well as master the album

The Road To Wutumeiren
The mystery around this enigmatic project remains unsolved, only revealing an intense and subtle universe where songs tell stories like short movies. The lyric comprises and mixes Mongolian, Mandarin Chinese, and self-created languages that were designed to be melted within the aura of an Asian abstract atmosphere. The featured track “The Road To Wutumeiren” was selected and released by China Universal Records titled “Opposite House Vol 1”, and this is a re-release version in the United States.

Lost Time Remains
The featured track, “Lost Time Remains,” is from Yang Zhang’s newest album, “The Realm of Desire,” which is slated for release on August 27th, 2024. The whole album redefines the philosophy of “nirvana” by exploring the first realm of desire, as the access to further the concept of Samsara: the cycle of conditioned existence, birth, and re-birth.
The philosophical point of view behind the desire realm, and the connection to “nirvana” is intuitively sophisticated, controversial, and infinite. “Lost Time Remains” sets the tone of the “New Romance” style in the fictional scenes in 1920 Paris, by blending music tastes from Tango, film noir Jazz, alternative Pop, and laced with the ever origin of analog sounds.

The Realm Of Desire
The desire, form, and formless realms constitute three spheres of Buddhist cosmology and the lines between the three spheres and the connection to Buddhist cosmology seem boundaryless.
“The realm of desire” boldly redefines the philosophy of “nirvana” by exploring the first realm of desire, as the access to further and reflect the concept of Samsara: the cycle of conditioned existence, birth, and re-birth.
The philosophy behind the desire realm, and the connection to “nirvana” is intuitively sophisticated, controversial, and infinite. The album sets the tone of “Retro-futurism‘’ by tracing back three fictional scenes in New York in the Jazz era, Ancient Japan in the 17 century, and Paris in 1920 to reveal three layers of desires: to be vividly portrayed intensity in the cold atmosphere; the suppressed emotions beyond the expression, and the illusions at the edge of sunlight and shadow.

The Road To Wutumeiren
The album depicted a cinematic landscape by infusing subtle and poetic dance beats with an abstract Eastern ambiance, featuring sonic sound design that interfered with multi-layered Asian-oriented folk instruments and a variety of vocal styles. The vocal parts feature the Mongol singer Daiqing Tana and French Jazz singer Lily Jung, and their voices have been re-defined to be part of the Asian abstract aura to take the audience on a timeless and spaceless trip where past, present, and future merges.
